Thanksgiving was fine. We went to my mom's house and of course at turkey and the fixings after waiting patiently for the timer to pop up on the turkey. The goofy thing wouldn't seem to pop up, so everybody kept standing around the oven waiting for it to pop!
We ended up in a three hour game of risk. I'm not very good at strategy games- but evidently Richie is going to be, because he wiped out everybody! Stephen was on my team, and while we were in good shape and winning for a little bit, he stayed right by my side, but when we started getting wiped out, he left to go play. Anyway, we had a great time!
After that, my Dad and Stephen got into a heated game of Checkers. I played with him after a while, and he's gotten pretty good. They looked like 2 old men in a park to me.
After that, we watched a movie together and I fell asleep.
The next day we decorated our house for Christmas. We put up the tree, hung the stuff on the walls and fireplace, and of course had to put up the Christmas train. That is the most important part to my kids!
Friday night, we went to the Trans Siberian Orchestra Christmas concert. To see details, look at the blog below this one. It was amazing to say the least!
Saturday, I took the kids to the train show at the Gateway Center in Collinsville. We walked around for a long time, and the kids had a blast! Their favorite is the Lego train, so we stood there for what seemed like hours while they pointed out each individual lego that they thought was amazing!
After that, we looked at the regular layouts- all different scales- HO, N, Z, G....train talk! I think the kids are really starting to like N gauge this year. Anyway, I took some pictures, but a man from the Suburban Journals interviewed us and took their pictures by the trains. I don't know if we'll end up in there or not!
After the train show and buying souvenir trains...we went to the Missouri Botanical Gardens and saw the train display there. The kids really liked the part where the people were on a ski lift and then skiing down a snowy mountain. The whole display was really pretty and Christmas-y.
After the Bot. gardens, we went to "Wild Lights" at the zoo. There are Christmas lights all through the zoo of animals and in trees, etc. Some animals are out- like the Polar Bear and Penguins, but most are away. It was weird being in the zoo when it was cold instead of 100 degrees, and it was dark too! I've never been to the zoo at night in my entire life!
Of course, it wouldn't be a trip to the zoo for my kids if we didn't ride the 3-D simulator! So, we headed down an icy slope on the motion simulator 3 times!!!
After we got back last night, we curled up with some popcorn and a movie and got to relax a little! What an amazing break!!!
